Your Life Is Complete Without These "Eight Random Things About Me"

Zooks! I’ve been TAGGED by Moises Lopez of The Sourcing Corner, which means I’m honor bound to participate in a game of cyber-tag. (hmmmm… I wonder if this is “tag” as in the game, or “tag” as in to deface with graffiti?) Moises got tagged by Amybeth Hale (she of research goddess – still in training!), who was tagged by Dan Sweet from FRACAT, who was tagged by Christine O’Kelly of Create Business Growth Offer, who was tagged by Wizzer. This is sounding like a book of begats from the Genesis, so I’ll stop there.

THE COMMANDMENTS:
1. Post these rules before you give you the facts.
2. List 8 random facts about yourself.
3. At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names (linking to them).
4. Leave them a comment on their blog letting them know they’ve been tagged!

So here we go… eight random facts about Troy:

  1. All my siblings and my parents golf, but I do not.

  2. Although both of my parents, one grand-parent, two brothers and all four of my kids are natives of the great state of Colorado, I am not. I missed being born in Colorado by three months.
  3. I graduated from the same high school my father did: Denver South High School. My wife also graduated from South, but in a different year.
  4. While attending the University of Northern Colorado, I survived the 1980 fire on the 4th floor of Turner Hall. I was living on the 12th floor the night of the fire. Remember: smoke goes up.
  5. I traveled with Up With People – Cast D 1980. And yes, I can still do swing-claps.
  6. I met my wife when we were dance partners in the high school all-school show. We met again when I crashed her 10-year high school class reunion.
  7. I’ve climbed to the highest points in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.
  8. The job I love most is being a dad to my two girls and two boys. Dad is an interesting job. If I randomly selected four people out of my candidate database, I could not find four people more different from each other than my children.

It is getting harder to find people not tagged by this meme. For the eight people I must tag, I choose:

  1. Johanna Rothman of Hiring Technical People
  2. Chris Russell of Secrets of the Job Hunt
  3. Carl Chapman of Confessions of an Executive Restaurant Recruiter
  4. Matt Martone of Job Search Marketing
  5. Lane Cavalier at Connecting the World One Beverage at A Time
  6. Mark Barsocchini at The BarZ
  7. And two more draft picks to be named…
  8. …at a more civilized hour.

My Core Ideas

1. "I can't tell you the best way to get a job - because there is no one best way. After 16 year of recruiting, I CAN share things I've seen candidates do to guarantee they DIDN'T get the job."

2. "Most companies don't realize how their recruiting process impacts their candidate pool, and their business. Attention to simple things will result in big improvements."
